Dunfermline looked decidedly ring rusty in their opening friendly match against their nearest rivals at the Rosyth Recreation Ground. The only thing to cheer was a flash of inspiration from Stevie CRAWFORD after 20 minutes. The striker backheeled the ball into the net after Cowden’s defence had failed to clear a powerful Ian Ferguson drive.

Although Lee Bullen hit the crossbar with a header late in the first half the Pars never again looked like scoring. After five second half substitutions for Dunfermline and six for Cowdenbeath, the game became little more than a training exercise before the squad left for Holland.
